Gallipilli- 12 May.

This section was of special interest to some members who had relatives lost in the disastrous  campaign. The site is sensitively presented with storyboards and monuments to mark significant sites in the area. We had a local guide who was a specialist on the topic of the campaign and landing and the inept 'leadership' of the British commanders. One in particular, Stafford did nor leave his ship and with no knowledge of the circumstances or area issued orders which his toady lieutenants carried out! The trenches are still visible and the Turkish guides very clear on the botched assault and loss of life.
Followed  by Suvla Bay.
We left gallipoli to take the ferry across the opening of the Dardanelles to Canikkale close to the site of Troy. At the harbour we were met by the Wooden Horse situated on a pleasant promenade by the harbour.
Overnight in Canikkale and Troy tomorrow,
