Arriving in Mainland Greece. 23rd May
We disembarked early from the ship and met our guide at the Port of Lavrion, already missing our charming and capable Turkish guide. Little did we know how much we would miss his style as the week progressed.
A sphinx from the museum. There was also a great array of pottery and ceramics - vases a day platters.
Our first stop was the Corinth Canal, an amazing feat of engineering. It is so deep with massive embankments on each side.
A quick coffee and loo stop and we were on our way to see the Ancient city of Corinth and the Temple of Apollo and the Fountain of Peirene.
Some of the excavated statues at the Temple of Apollo.
The museum housed many more artefacts.

It was now c.ose to lunchtime and we were all hungry, having breakfasted at 6.00 on the ship, but the guide was on a roll and we were whisked off yo the next site at Epidaurus on the Argolid Peninsula where we visited the Ancient Theatre, regarded as the best-preserved Ancient theatre in Greece because of its perfect acoustics, dating back to the 4th century.
The Theatre.
We were definitely ready for our lunch stop but it was not to be as as there was the expansive site and museum. The guide lectured us with a conflated narrative of history and mythology which wad interesting only up to a point!!
Finally at 3.30 we had our lunch stop and then the weary travellers were taken to the hotel about 5pm. A beautiful hotel at Nafplio but too late to enjoy the facilities or ho for a walk!
