Kusadasi and Ephesus

We left Pamukkale in the morning for a visit to Hierapolis an ancient Greek city that sits atop the cascading pool terraces.

The Theatre and other excavations at Hieropolis.

We arrived in Kusadasi in the afternoon to our gorgeous hotel situated on the cliffs overlooking the harbour and town.  The hotel has gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and Agean and has a magnificent pool and recreation area. As we were both coming down with very heavy colds we did not feel inclined to avail ourselves of the pool - very unusual for us!!
The picture above is sideways for some reason but it shows how beautifully is is situated.
We took a walk down the hill to see the harbour and have some dinner- lots of seafood restaurants and bars, and of course, tourists,  many from the cruise ships.

In the morning we dosed up on codral as we headed for Ephesus which was to be the highlight of this part of Turkiye. On the way we visited a leather factory specialising in fancy, fashionable, expensive jackets made from baby lamb!! Beautiful texture, like silk  but I was not comfortable with the idea of baby lamb!!
Ephesus, the largest Roman city ever uncovered is vaste.  We walked down the marble covered streets to see gymnasiums, bath houses, public latrines, the Library of Celsus and the remains of the Temple of Artemis,  one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world. We also had access to the private villas which are currently being excavated  revealing intricate floor mosaics and colourful frescoes on the interior walls. The whole sight was breathtaking and we felt so privileged to be there.
So after two hours of an amazing experience we left Ephesus to ready ourselves for our final evening in Turkiye with dinner at a winery.
